So, when I found out last year that James Bond had a new face, it was nothing but disappointment for this girl. I have easily been a Pierce fan and a replacement was not in the cards for me.
I am too young to really appreciate Sean Connery (Timothy Dalton doesn't even do it for me). Mr. Connery has aged gracefully, yes, but no thank you.
It was only natural that the immensely talented Pierce has long been my 007 main attraction. His acting abilities speak for themselves and well, he aint bad to look at.
Truth be told, just as I sometimes dream of my new found stardom on the American Idol stage, becoming a bond girl was no far stretch of the imagination. A girl can dream.
So, naturally, when I saw the role had fallen into the hands of Daniel Craig, I was fairly disappointed and vowed at the sight of the first trailer that a bond girl, I was no more.
When the movie made it's way to the local big screen, dear husband must have done some convincing and I gave it a chance. Maybe we had a free babysitter, I don't recall the details.
At any rate, I found myself watching this Bond wannabe.
My first thoughts...his head is too small for his body, this plot sucks, what more can they do with the bond character and this guy will never be able to fill the rather large shoes. (well, I imagine they are large shoes).
So, half way into the movie, I'm warming up to him. I'm beginning to see some light at the end of the tunnel.
Is a bond metamorphosis happening here?
Several scenes with his shirt off later and I have a realization...
With a body like that, who needs to look at his face?
Problem solved.
and then the movie just kept going. It's almost three hours long. It was like getting two bond movies for the price of one. The plot was actually intriguing. Did I mention he had his shirt off a lot?
Next.
By the end of the flick, I thought he was a great actor. I think a great actor has the ability to cause a reaction in his audience.
done.
I suppose I wasn't that faithful to Pierce after all and now I question my loyalties altogether.
As my bond-blog post comes to an end, might I just share the biggest realization tonight...
When it comes to bond movies, I'm apparently not loyal at all to the actor but the well developed character and my dream of one day becoming a bond girl has not been crushed but remains steady and constant.
Mr. Craig is doing it for me, still, even as a 5 day rental.
well, I guess it was as simple as that. He's now earned a honorary spot on the much coveted freebie list.
well done Mr Craig, I tip my hat to you.
