Last night, we participated in a live nativity. Some friends of ours help cast the event and since we have a newborn baby, they felt we would be perfect for the parts of Joseph, Mary and the baby Jesus.
We had no idea it was such a production. They had gone to great lengths to give the scene a sense of reality. There were live chickens in with us which made it hard to keep a straight face every now and then.
They had the event set up as a walkway and as you walked through, you could see quite a few different things from that time period: a carpenter and his son, a man at a pottery wheel, a juggler, beggars, live animals and of course, the manger at the end. All the animals were real, complete with a donkey, cows, a camel and the chickens. The actors were all real people and it gave the evening a pretty profound feeling.
My friend told us that close to 2500 people walked through last night. Of course, Quin slept through the whole thing. Only to wake up as soon as we got home and want to talk about it for the rest of the night.
I really enjoyed it. It helped me remember my faith and to better appreciate this Christmas season.

Away in a manger.... what a neat way to celebrate the season.

That makes me cry. How sweet!
