Sugar Cookies

We like sugar. So we make sugar cookies.
Cookies brighten up my kid, so we make them often.

Here is our favorite recipe, from my friend Jonique:

1 cup shortening 1/2 cup butter
2 cups sugar 3 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla 1 cup milk
1 tsp. soda 2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

Mix shortening and butter. Add sugar, mix. Add eggs, vanilla and milk, mix.
Add dry ingredients, mix. Add 2 cups flour then keep adding flour until you
have a stiff dough. Roll out dough on counter with a little flour dusted under the dough and on the rolling pin. The dough should be about 1/4" thick. Cookie cutter it to death.
Bake 400 for 5 minutes.

Of course, you know, that altitude and oven temps will vary, so try it for 5 minutes and watch them closely. You can't have burned sugar cookies. That's gross.

Make your favorite frosting and get your sprinkles ready. You can't make sugar cookies without sprinkles, it's unspeakable.
Randy is reading The Hobbit to Boston right now, so he kept saying things like, "please pass the blue knife of all mankind".
I thought it was hysterical. Partly because I had so much sugar coursing through my veins and partly because you always think your own kid is so funny.

So the next time it's raining or you need a sugar fix, try the cookies. They're yum.

He is the funniest boy of all mankind. I sure hope he is still planning on shacking up with Kika when he gets older.
