Friday, May 26th was a day to remember....we took Boston to the Heber Valley Railroad to ride the train. They had Thomas the Train visiting, who just happens to be Boston's favorite friend.
Since Boston was about a year old, he has loved trains. Over the past 2 years, he has collected movies, clothes, shoes and of course lots of trains to feed the fever.
Boston has most of the Thomas collection and so it was no surprise that his excitement to see the "real" Thomas was pretty high.
He had been talking about it for a while and asked often "to see big Thomas". To a three year old, another week or even another day is just too long to wait. I wonder if he believed us when we told him, "just a few more days, sweetie".
Finally, the day had come and my Dad, Randy, Boston and I were off to see the train.
From the moment we got in the car, Boston had been asking if we were close yet. I'm sure the ride to visit his friends at the train station was just way too long.
When we arrived and he saw Thomas coupled with the old Heber steam engine, his voice was trembling and his hands were shaking (no joke). He could hardly believe it. The day had come. Mom and Dad had made good on their promise to take him to see the big train.
They had fun activities for the kids to do while waiting for Thomas to take them on a ride and Boston was interested but he wanted to see the train yard. He quickly made his way from the amusement type games to the old black and red engines that wait on the tracks. Randy took him to see every train.
Soon they asked for our tickets and had us choose a car to ride in. They had both outside cars and then the standard inside car. Most of the kids chose to ride the outside car and hang their arms out of the side and wave to people. Not Boston. He chose the old fashioned, traditional, inside car, the one closest to Thomas. It was a wide open car with just a couple other families.
He chose his seat and just relished the ride. He was 100% content. He kept saying to all of us, "I don't want to go home, do you want to go home?" He stared out the window and did his famous choo-choo arms to celebrate where he was.
Worth every penny. He loved it and that's the kinda stuff kids and life and the memories that bring you joy are all about.
